Review // Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers in ‘303 Apocaliptic’ and ‘304 Eclipse’!

By Chaste & Beautiful - Sunday, May 29, 2016

Hiya,

I know I’m going to come up with another excuse for being so late but honestly, this heat is to blame for. It kept me immobilized and dizzy and the fatigue never seemed to go away. Anyhow, tonight the wind is cool and I’m feeling refreshed after a long time. Then I had the guilty feeling of not updating my blog too, so here I am, with couple of lippies from no other than Rimmel. The Apocalips entered the market about 4 years ago and were among the most raved about products.

I had been after these in the beginning but then set the notion aside. However, just recently, I spotted them at daraz.pk on sale and this was the moment perhaps, appointed for me. How could I not avail such a chance! I grabbed these two lippies in a jiffy without even considering the shades, fearful the sale might end during my shopping. Also daraz.pk hasn’t got all the 8 shades, so I wasn’t left with much choice either.

Full Name, Price & Purchase

These are called Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers in ‘303 Apocaliptic’ and ‘304 Eclipse.’ As I told you, I got them from daraz.pk for PKR: 550 in sale and the good news is they’re still available in this price range. When these were launched, these were priced at more than $15 whereas Colourpop launched their lippies at just $6 and their lippies are miles better than these.

Shades and Scent

I purchased Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in ‘303 Apocaliptic’ that’s a very bold fuschia and I am not a big fan of it. The other is ‘304 Eclipse,’ which is a lovely deep burgundy and most definitely an autumn winter color. I must add here that the shades of Apocalips are not very much in vogue now. The scent is awful. It is like the typical chemical infused plastic smell that lessens after application.

Packaging

The packaging is quite attractive and I haven’t yet seen any other lippie product having such a packaging. The sturdy plastic tube bears quality, has 5.5 ml of product, and is black from top and frosty transparent from below that you can observe the color. The doe foot applicator is absolutely divine. It has a small depression in the tip of the sponge and this helps in spreading the color evenly, also you don’t have to dip in the tube again and again because the depression holds the liquid in it and only the required amount gets released.

Product Quality

As claimed by Rimmel, these are neither lip glosses nor liquid lipsticks, rather something in between. (Wink) I mean lol! Nonetheless these have a glossy, satin finish, that isn’t bearable in summer. The colors I’ve chosen are more appropriate for winter and the product inclines towards sheen, so it is better for cooler season. The application is pretty smooth, although you have to be careful while applying the darker shades, especially as they tend to stain a lot. Overall, I’d say the quality is definitely good but not that impressive.

My Thoughts

That’s the most difficult part. So, Ahem! This product launched in the days when liquid lipstick weren’t ‘in’ yet and companies were sort of experimenting with them. Rimmel came up with this so called advanced formula of a liquid lip gloss cum lipstick version and hit the markets with a big bang. So, if you’ve tried the newer versions of liquid lipsticks, you might not approve of these. They are good, light weight and have a sleek, shiny finish with not a very long staying power. The product is very much stainable and transfers easily. Then, it fades unevenly too.

But here the negativities conclude. The good points are high pigmentation, easy and light-wear formula, satiny smooth lips, and are highly moisturizing with absolutely non-sticky texture. Your lips won’t dry out. You can even blot out the excess liquid and give it a matte appearance. Avoid extensive eating and drinking for longer lasting and keep it in your bag for retouches, it would never leak and is quite travel friendly due to the light weight. Furthermore, the tapered wand with the well in it is a dream to work with. The only thing that bugs me is the shade and I’m waiting for autumn to begin to enjoy these more.

"Apocaliptic is leaning more towards red here, but it is more of a reddish shocking pink in real;"

Recommendation

Yes of course, recommended to all, especially young girls should give this a go. However, with so many companies coming up with newer versions of liquid lipsticks, I am afraid these wouldn’t make heads turn.

Would I Repurchase

Yes, but not this version. I want to try out their Rimmel Apocalips matte lip velvets.

  7. Rimmel Apocalips was one of the first lip products that I purchased as soon as I arrived Canada. The brand Rimmel is not available in Malaysia and I quickly got my hands on one because I read amazing reviews on the range. What a disappointment, it bleeds so badly and not even lip liners can save it. I tossed mine away.

    1. Yes, you are right they do bleed and not really a great option, considering the lip variety that is available currently. Thanks for stopping by. :)

  9. Oh! Eclipse is so pretty, just the shade for my complexion. Loved reading your review. I like Rimmel products, and have their lip crayons. They are better than these, since I've used this lip lacquer in Galaxy. Do try out the matte ones too, Burning Lava and Atomic Rose are beautiful shades in that range.Meteoric Matte is good too but is for mature women and these matte ones are really good, totally unlike these ones here.

    1. Yes, Atomic Rose is on my wishlist! However, I feel it might be too light for me or it my work mixed in with another lip color. I liked the look of Burned Lava and Meteoric Matte, will try them soon. Thanks for such a detailed comment. :)

  14. I remember seeing these liquid lipsticks everywhere on youtube and have been meaning to try, but back then, these were expensive online (probably because of the hyped). If and only if they didn't pull out Rimmel from our market here... T__T
