Review // Dessata Professional Detangling Brush!

By Chaste & Beautiful - Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Hiya,

As promised, I’m here with the post on Dessata Detangling Brush and I mentioned in my earlier post how I had been after this for a long time. So, naturally my enthusiasm knew no bounds when I was able to get it in my possession finally. Before buying it, I had also watched Saadiah Khawaja’s video on this detangler that had clearly created an excitement in me. Before heading further with the review, if you haven’t watched Saadiah’s video, let me tell you that she reviewed the special edition of this detangler, whereas mine is the same company’s regular one.

Purchase and Pricing

I bought Dessata Professional Detangling Brush from Al-Fatah for PKR 980. The packaging is a simple plastic transparent covering, nothing fancy. The detangling brush inside comes in various colors and is of quite cheap quality. If you knock on the top of the detangler, it gives a hollow sound, which clearly shows the cheap plastic it is made with. I bought the red one with both, black small and long bristles.

Company Claims

The company Dessata claims it to be a 100% Made in Spain and as I’m not much familiar with Spanish products, I can’t comment if this is in real from Spain or not, because if any product is of Europe, we do expect a high quality. Now, coming to company claims, it states this detangling brush can detangle with ease, no pulling, no breakage, no static, soft and shiny finish, great for kids and all types of hair. Moreover, it has 440 flexible bristles, ergonomic design, without handle, adapts to head curvature, and has many different colors.

My Thoughts

This time, I’m going to bust the company claims one by one and see if there’s any claim it lives up to.

1. Detangles with Ease

No, it didn’t detangle my hair with ease and neither my mom’s hair. We both have thick long hair, rather mine is medium length and it certainly didn’t work in my hair with ease.

2. No Pulling

Again, this proved to be wrong as there was tugging and pulling while brushing dry hair, and I can well imagine what it’ll do to wet hair.

3. No Breakage

Well, here I do not feel the need to say anything as the picture will show you the evidence.

4. No Static

Not any static but then generally, static is more common in winter months. So, can’t put to test it as yet.

5. Soft and Shiny Finish

Yes, it does maintain the soft and shiny finish and you can check it through the pictures. It preserves the original waves and curls of the hair and the finishing effect is surprisingly better than the ordinary brush. However, I can’t compromise on hair pulling and breakage just to get the shiny finish. Perhaps, a bigger sized detangler can solve the problem of hair breakage.

6. Great for Kids & All Types of Hair

Yes, it is great for kids, men, boys, and females with short fine hair, but not for women with thick long hair.

7. 440 Flexible Bristles

This means it has nylon flexible bristles, but my detangler’s bristles have bent to an extent of being de-shaped now.

8. Ergonomic Design

Ergonomic design signifies that the design is much optimized for human well-being and after my experiences; I for sure do not endorse this claim.

9. Without Handle

This is quite inconvenient because it slips out of the hand, even my brother exclaimed that one needs patience while using it. I would prefer a handle certainly or the company should design it with a non-slippery grip.

10. Adapts to Head Curvature

This is true, it does adapt to the curvature of head but the bristles are so bendable and small that it doesn’t work satisfactorily in thick and long hair. My mom said she couldn’t even feel the bristles in the thicker areas of hair.

The Final Verdict

First, I honestly don’t like to criticize any product without any specific reason and that too upsets me. This detangler might work for those with short or thin, finer hair but it did not work for me and for that I blame myself because after looking at the size I should’ve judged that this size won’t be functional for my hair. However, I must mention that this is good for travelling due to its petite size and will come handy for quick hair fixes. As for the quality, it is a cheap, low quality product and one should opt for better quality detanglers. Cry once, not again and again. I spent almost PKR 1000 on it, and that keeps reminding me that I could’ve gone for the Balmain brush that was similarly priced but looked much bigger and better.

Recommendation

Only to those who are still kids, or people with fine, short hair, specifically good for males.

Would I Repurchase?

Not this brand, but I would try to get my hands on the Original Expensive Tangle Teezer, it might be money worth and also they have a line particularly for curly and thick hair which seems just perfect for me.

  2. Ayesha, I am in SHOCK! I swear my video was TOTALLY HONEST N NOT AT ALL SPONSORED!!! Yes my edition is the "Special Edition " if u see my latest you tube video I just put up this morning you will see that I'm not lying, but neither are you! In fact this is the first time I've read a review of yours that reflects so much disappointment n going by what you say, rightly so :( but there is another review on their page regarding this brush by Fakhra I guess. Do ask her n then do talk to the company. I feel kind of guilty but you are more than welcome to try my sample. I feel bad n that's an understatement :(

    1. Yes, I know your video was 100% genuine and it was very lovely, honestly. I am not targeting or aiming for anybody who's experience went better than mine. I am just trying to relate my readers with my detangler story. Yes, I am disappointed but then things like these happen and you don't have to feel guilty for anything. If something works for you or anyone else, then I couldn't be happier. I would love to try your sample someday but I think I have learned my lesson that detanglers like Dessata, tangler teezer or tangle angel will never work for me, I'll have to stick to my trusty paddle hair brushes. Cheer up and your video was awesome, there is no denying that. Love you and thanks for the geniality you've shown towards me. I heart you. :) :D

  5. TBH I never found these brushes to be very effective even the tangle teaser. I agree on point that these works only for very short and fine hair. If you are looking for good hair brush, I will suggest to get one with wooden teeth. And always brush your hair in sections starting from the ends and then go upwards. That is much easier.

    1. Seriously, I am a bit disheartened to learn that Tangle Teezer is the same thingy. Yes, a proper hair brush works brilliantly and I will definitely look out for one with wooden teeth. Thanks for your suggestion. :)

  6. It is really sad to know that this brush is total waste of money. I mean if it cannot manage the hair like yours what is worth for then, thin hairs can be manged with small comb as well. I really appreciate your honest review.

  9. I have 2 of these. One small travel size by Dessata and the bigger one by Rivaaj. Honestly I love them, reason being they comb my hair without unnecessary breakage and they do detangle my hair coz my hair are mostly straight with little or less wave. I would say that every product is not for everyone. With your hair type I would recommend the wooden sparse comb or the steel one.

    1. Yes, you are so right, every product cannot fulfill each individual's needs and that's what I have been mentioning in my post too. Combs never work for me and paddle brushes are the best ones to keep my hair in tiptop shape. On the Dessata detangler, they should have mentioned detanglers do not work for thick, long and very curly hair, instead they started spreading that it works for all hair types which is misguiding, so I had to beat it for the sake of my readers. Moreover, I highly doubt if this detangler will work for African hair. This implies that at least half of the females can't even think of using it. Thank you so much for stopping by. :)

  14. Bummer that it did not live up to your expectations :( Are you able to return it? It looks very similar to the tangle teezer which I'm a big fan of. Maybe the Balmain brush will be better :)

  25. That was shocking honestly. How could the other bloggers praise it so much if it can't handle thick and long hair? Thank God, I haven't bought it yet, and I did have apprehensions when I saw its bristles in Al-Fatah but kept on believing their claims. The videos I've watched showing the bloggers easily untangling their hair were very good and at that time it didn't even occur to me that they have fine and short hair. I love your honest review. Thanks
