Review // Essence Liquid Lipstick “02 Beauty Secret”

Hiya,

After being into makeup and beauty blogging for quite some time now, I’ve come upon the assessment that lip colors are the basic and most used products in cosmetics. I mean a woman not intent on makeup at all; will for sure be the owner of at least 2-3 lipsticks, for they are the game changers. So much so that a mere lip color alone or along with mascara perhaps, can alter your whole appearance in a jiffy. That’s why I’ve started investing in lipsticks more and trying hard to ignore other makeup additions. Besides, eye-shadows aren’t my cup of tea either.

So, today’s review concentrates on a liquid lipstick by Essence that was bought on a whim, since I simply couldn’t resist the color. The lipstick is known as Beauty Secret and if you want more info, read on.

Essence Liquid Lipstick “02 Beauty Secret”

Price

This was of only PKR 430. That is another reason I grabbed hold of it, while bargain hunting in Al-Fatah.

Packaging

The packaging is good. It is a cute and sleek transparent, sturdy plastic bottle/tube. You can tell the measure and shade of the product very effortlessly. The tube arrives with a sponge tip applicator, usual with most of the liquid lip colors and secures tightly enough for any leakage issues.

Shade Description

Beauty Secret is a muted pink shade that attracts attention; however don’t let it fool you. This color is extremely light for my taste and you can’t even build it up. The stickiness will intensify, not the hue. There were other shades too, slightly stronger than this one but dissimilar in tone, and I wish I had bought those.

Longevity

Sadly, this lip color is no different than other Essence products and lasts for only 1-2 hours, if you manage to remain your mouth shut till that period. Though, in case of talking, eating, drinking, or even opening your mouth to yawn, it will be gone before you know it.

Formula/Texture

Strange texture honestly! It is very sticky and glossy, just like a lip gloss but a bit thicker in consistency and in all conscience; I didn’t find it any changed from Essence lip glosses. Perhaps, they just increased the pigment level of their lip glosses and titled them as liquid lipsticks, can’t say for sure. But then at this price, who am I to complain.

Scent/Flavor

It holds no scent but contains a very sugary sweet flavor that is very bothersome. The sweet toothed gals might be able to tolerate it, however.




My Thoughts

As this is my very first liquid lipstick, if you can call it that btw, I had great expectations from it. It did clearly disappoint me because of its poor color pigmentation, short staying power and the entire formula is around average, but I must include that I do like the color. Muted shades are much in nowadays and this is my favorite color, the major glitch rests in the low intensity of the tint. 

I do wear it off and on and will continue to wear it till summers commence, after that I know it would be of no use. Such a sticky formula cannot be worn in Pakistani heat; it will be streaking my chin, as it definitely gets transferred. Plus it stays shiny and I kept waiting for it to turn matte. Nevertheless, I just realized, an added aspect goes in its favor too and that’s the hydrating factor. It can be used for moisturizing lips because it does incline towards softening the lips exceptionally well, and above all my lips seem buffed, fuller, and fleshier.

Recommendation         

If you like lip glosses, this is for you. 

Would I Repurchase?

Maybe not! But that entirely depends on my mood leanings as well. You might discover me blogging about another shade, (darker than this one certainly) from the same brand.

    I love essence but I'm not particularly a fan of their liquid lipsticks! They don't seem to have nearly enough pigmentation as most other liquid lipsticks. Although, they still are such a bargain! :)

    I like essence products and yes this pink colour attracts me too. But being a women i cannot shut my mouth all the time for the staying of liplistcks. I love long lasting one so that I can talk eat and laugh but lipsticks remain sticky on my lips. Maybe i cant think of buying it. Thanks for your precious response :)

    You are right, the color is indeed very beautiful. Though, not surprised at the quality. Essence is notorious for its shoddy work. Nice review.

    I have not used Essence liquid lipsticks but it seems that they are much like their lip glosses.They are also sticky and and the staying power is just like as u mentioned in this review.nice post.
