Getting through summer monsoon!

Hiya Girls,
I love rains in summer as they cool down the weather and we all get a break from the persistent heat. But when monsoon really starts kicking in Pakistan, from July-September, the heat and humidity become unbearable.

Unfortunately, in our country, summer cannot be enjoyed to the fullest due to the shortage of electric supply and the continuous load-shedding leads to further annoyance. This takes a toll on our skin, hair as well as other life issues. That is why I am going to share with you some of my tips, to how to makes these unbearable months, bearable.

Skin: During the dreaded monsoon (which is in full swing these days) many of us experience a lot of sweating, oily skin, clogged pores, stickiness and discoloration of our complexion. Acne prone and oily skins suffer more, naturally!
I have normal-dry skin tone. Even then, application of makeup products and creams or lotions becomes a complete, no, no. I can’t stand anything on my face in so much heat and humidity. Apart from taking shower twice daily with a good soap (no shower gel, mind you) I use body mist and an ample amount of talcum powder on my body to keep it fragrant and non-sticky. Avoid heavy, musky smells. Go for light refreshing flowery, minty fragrances.
As for makeup, I only apply a face powder and a touch of color on lips, preferably a matte lipstick that too blotted by a tissue paper, when I have to go out, nothing more. I also wash my face with my favorite cleanser St Ives Green Tea Gel Cleanser   3-4 times a day in 24 hours. I also follow the normal skin care routine though I avoid using any moisturizer afterwards.
Hair: I shampoo my hair every other day but don’t condition it. I prefer to keep it fresh and crisp during these months. For those girls who simply can’t resist a conditioner, I would recommend Lorys Hair cream, as it really helps in keeping hair silky yet crisp. Many girls also experience hair loss in this weather, due to excessive sweating. Trick is to keep your hair squeaky clean and sweat free.

Any elaborate hair-dos are really out of question for me. I always keep it tied up in a knot, clasped with a catcher. Away from my face, leaving my neck and ears, bare and cool. Girls suffering from acne must be very careful and keep their hair away from face. While sleeping though, I open up my hair. This keeps the hair dry and fresh. I refrain from using hair dryers, straighteners and curlers.

Dresses and Shoes: I am an all year round pure ‘cotton’ person. There is only one fabric convenient for summers of Pakistan and that is, Lawn. I wear lawn clothes throughout summer and always buy very fine, good quality lawn. I also avoid starching my clothes in this weather. Starched clothes really make you feel stuffy, sticky, itchy and hot, as starch closes the pores of a fabric. I f you must use starch, use the canned starch sprays. They keep the clothes lightly crisp and crease free.

Open flat sandals and chappals are the best choice. Try to avoid high heeled closed shoes. Remember, heels put undue stress and strain on the body which must be avoided in summers.

Food & Beverages: Heavy, oily foods especially ‘Roti-Salan’ don’t tempt me at all during the wet season. I try to eat light healthy snacks, such sandwiches, pasta, fruits, salads, etc. Rice with lentils (daal chawal) is also a good choice. Our digestive system doesn’t work as efficiently in these month as it does in winter. So keep it light! Go for achars and chutneys too.
Lemon is one of the best ingredients for our beauty and health. I increase the usage of lemon by drinking a lot of lemonade. You can also try minty beverages with lemon in them. Drink more to keep your skin and hair hydrated and glowing.

  1. Very interesting post. I also avoid makeup in this hot humid weather. Sweating on my face is a big problem. Talcum powder is a big no no for me as it causes more sweating.

    1. That's weird that talcum powder makes you sweaty whereas it keeps me cool and dry. Thanks for stopping by:)
